Every person on this Earth has a right to be housed properly. But approximately one in every six in the world lives in slums, so many of our fellow human beings are living in appalling conditions. Many countries throughout history and in the modern era, have taken as a state priority the responsibilty to construct complexes of communal housing for the poor and the needy.
While I was researching for this topic, I discovered many astonishing evidences of how statesmen from many backgrounds thought about solving the problem. Whether it is in Britain, Germany, France, Egypt or a city in India, the concept was the same; to lodge a mass of needy people in a convenient way with a nominal rent or a very low one payable to the state.
